Who We Are

The Pathways for Future Teacher program works to advance educational equity by preparing the next generation of educators, with a focus on a diverse and well-prepared teacher workforce; a workforce of teachers that are more representative of the racial, ethnic, and social diversity of the P-12 student populations they will serve.

The Pathways for Future Teachers Office is here to help guide students and their families with the transition from high school to UNT, and back into the District communities. Our office will assist in connecting you to everything UNT from admissions, to housing and financial aid. We are here to help steer you in the right direction.

Achieving Our Goals

We are reaching our goals through collaboration with school districts with diverse demographics in their student population that also have high schools with a teacher education cluster or teacher education career path. We also work with the district's identified regional community college that fulfill the dual credit requirements. District-specific course articulation agreements map out courses from high school to UNT. This increases high school students' ability to successfully graduate and enter UNT core-complete and in some high school programs, with their Associate of Arts Teaching degree.

pinHigh Schools and Districts

In collaboration with identified High Schools, Districts, Regional Community Colleges and the Pathways for Future Teachers program, students are provided an articulated course pathway, aligning dual-credit course work with the requirements for EC-6 certification requirements. We are also able to work with students that seek a teaching career in grades 7-12. Interested in finding out if your district or school is a partner? See Our Partners or email us at COE-Pathways@unt.edu. We are happy to connect you with contacts in your district and in our office to make sure you are on track.

pinRegional Community Colleges

Articulated plans make sure that courses are aligned with credit hours for the EC-6 certification requirements. Did your path lead you to graduate from a partner high school and complete additional courses or your A.A.T before entering UNT? We are here to help guide you as you continue your journey! For more information, email us at COE-Pathways@unt.edu.

pinNavigating the Process

First time in college? Transfer student? We understand that your path is unique to you and your family's needs. Pathways for Future Teachers can assist with the transition into the UNT community. Explore ways you can connect in the “Learn more about UNT” area of Resources. Have additional questions? Contact us through the “Learn More” form or email us at COE-Pathways@unt.edu.

pinUNT

Once at UNT, Pathways for Future Teachers provides a cohort experience with opportunities to connect with other future teachers. To see what the cohort offers see Cohorts or email us at COE-Pathways@unt.edu.

pinBack into the Communities

Our district partners want to see their students back as future educators, and this is an element of the District/UNT agreements. UNT offers a variety of coordinated opportunities for students to connect with their originating partner districts, especially during the two-semester internship experiences. Our Pathways cohort students then have the opportunity for district interviews that can lead to classroom teaching jobs in the communities and districts they call home.
