From the Dean:
Bertina Combes' New World
Dr. Bertina Combes In December, the provost’s office hosted a reception for Dr. Bertina Combes to welcome her to her new role as Vice Provost for Faculty Success. I suppose that means we have to accept that this is actually happening. As 2020 arrived, she took up residence in the Hurley Administration Building.

We will miss Dr. Combes’s daily presence in the college. This year marks her 30th year on our college faculty, and in those years, she has served – beyond her ongoing work with students, programs, colleagues, and research – as interim dean and twice as an associate dean. She is a leader in the Special Education program, the Department of Educational Psychology, and among the larger community at UNT. In the university, she has a very special role among faculty of color - and the community of students of color who look to those faculty for support and images of achievement and excellence. Naturally, her many gifts that mean so much to this college will multiply in their impact on the larger campus community.

Meanwhile, Bertina’s faculty assignment and tenure remain in the College of Education, and she will still be our colleague. I am hopeful that she will continue to work with us on some pet projects. And she will be looking benevolently down upon us, making sure all of our faculty are forever successful!

Bertina, you go with our support, our love, and our best wishes behind you!
