UNT is an essential partner of the Secretariat of Education – Jalisco sharing research and practice in education. This partnership has been in effect for the past 11 years and was just renewed for five more years on March 7th. This year UNT is the sponsor of the annual virtual Jalisco-Texas conference on March 30th and 31st, 2023.

The benefits of this partnership include sharing knowledge of research and practice related to education programs in the College of Education and the research centers and normal schools under the Secretariat of Education. Although we are only one university and one college, we have the opportunity to learn from 20 normal schools in Mexico and three research centers. We collaborate on studies with Mexico educators and have had at least three publications in highly known periodicals such as the Bilingual Research Journal. We have developed cross-cultural understanding among those who participate in the exchange of information, we have facilitated the presentation of our work at the National Association for Bilingual Education, and at their conferences in Guadalajara and Arandas. We have had some of their preservice teachers come to UNT to learn about our teacher education programs, visited classes, took intensive English classes, presented about their normal school curriculum, and we have had faculty and administrators from our college interact with faculty and administrators from Mexico fostering intercultural communication. Attendees will learn from educators from Jalisco and UNT about what they are studying and researching.
