Bilingual Education - Bachelor of Science in Education
The rapid expansion of Dual Language programs in Texas offers a unique opportunity
to work with emergent bi/multilingual students and their families in this high-needs
area. This is a job that is constantly in demand and also offers pay supplements and
tuition supports from districts.
The Bachelor of Science in Education with Bilingual Education certification builds
theoretical and historical perspectives on the unique contexts of Bilingual, dual-
and multi-language learners. Through inquiry-based approaches embedded in area schools
and communities, future teachers develop informed, instructional practices that positively
impact learners and families.
Students should consult with their advisors to determine the best sequence for taking
core courses, prerequisite courses, major courses, and courses in the blocks. Part
of this degree is the last three long semesters of the professional development sequence
(called Blocks: A, B, and C). Courses in Block A may/not require field experiences
at local early childhood education centers, elementary schools, and partnering community
organizations. Additionally, the final two long semesters (Blocks B & C) involve full-day
internship experiences at local schools.
