Why Choose a Counseling Minor?

If you are interested in becoming a counselor or mental health practitioner, a Counseling Minor is an excellent way to begin your journey. This program offers a strong foundation in counseling theories, skills, and ethical practice, while also exploring the social, cultural, and systemic factors that influence mental health and well‑being.

Whether you plan to pursue graduate studies in counseling—such as UNT’s master’s programs—or simply want to deepen your understanding of human behavior and supportive relationships, the minor equips you with knowledge and skills that benefit both personal and professional growth.

Designed for undergraduate students, the Counseling Minor prepares you for work in human services, community agencies, and helping‑related settings, and serves as a meaningful first step toward advanced training in counseling or related fields.
