The Cardiovascular Physiology Research Laboratory, directed by Dr. Justin Sprick, seeks to understand mechanisms of vascular dysfunction with disease and develop therapeutic strategies to improve vascular health. Current projects are focused on understanding vascular contributions to stroke risk in chronic kidney disease and understanding how a cardio-protective therapy called “remote ischemic preconditioning” may be optimized to improve vascular health. Key experimental techniques include electrocardiography (ECG), finger photoplethysmography, ultrasonography (Transcranial and peripheral) and microneurography.
