Our associate and assistant deans bring expertise in graduate and undergraduate education,
faculty development, research, and educator preparation. Together, they support the
success of our students, strengthen academic programs, and expand the college’s impact
across the communities we serve.
Dr. Angie Cartwright
Interim Dean of the College of Education
Dr. Angie D. Cartwright is the Interim Dean of the College of Education and Professor
of Counseling at the University of North Texas (UNT). Since joining UNT in 2015, she
has led several innovative, interdisciplinary research collaborations and made significant
contributions to student success, including her service as Director of the undergraduate
minor in Counseling. She has also held key leadership roles, including Assistant Vice
Provost for Faculty Success and Interim Department Chair of Teacher Education and
Administration.
Dr. Ruth McKoy Lowery
Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Faculty Affairs
As the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Faculty Affairs, Dr. Lowery advances
the college’s graduate programs and supports faculty development. Her research in
children’s literature and multicultural education helps shape inclusive pedagogies
across our programs.
Dr. Amanda E. Vickery
Associate Dean for Educator Preparation
Serving as Associate Dean for Educator Preparation, Dr. Vickery oversees UNT’s teacher
certification efforts and strengthens partnerships with K–12 schools. Her scholarship
focuses on how educators draw on community knowledge to teach concepts of citizenship.
Dr. Brian McFarlin
Associate Dean for Research
As Associate Dean for Research, Dr. McFarlin supports the college’s research initiatives.
His expertise lies in exercise physiology and biomarker discovery, with emphasis on
health, immunity, and chronic disease prevention.
Mrs. Quortina Phipps
Senior Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs
In her role as Senior Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs, Mrs. Phipps oversees undergraduate student experiences and academic programming,
ensuring that our bachelor’s-level offerings are responsive, accessible, and aligned
with the college’s mission.
