Currently, UNT does not offer the 4-8 program for undergraduate students. Post-Bac students in the 4-8 program are required to take their certification exams during specific courses (see TExES Exam Requirements further down this page). The deadlines remain the same each semester:
| Fall Exam Deadline | Spring Exam Deadline |
| December 15th | July 15 |
For example, if you are a Math 4-8 candidate enrolled in EDCI 5010 in Fall 2026, then
you are required to take your real Math 4-8 exam no later than December 15th.
In order for you to be eligible to start Clincial Teaching, you must have passed the Content and ESL exams by the Clinical Practice Deadlines. These deadlines also remain the same each semester:
| Fall Clinical Teaching Deadline | Spring Clinical Teaching Deadline |
| July 15th | December 15 |
For example, if you are scheduled to start Clinical Teaching (your final semester) in Spring 2027, and you didn't pass your Math 4-8 exam during the required EDCI 5010 course, then you must complete any required remediation and retake your Math 4-8 exam no later than December 15, 2026.
All candidates must score a 70 or better on their practice exams in order to receive approval to take their actual exams. Students required to complete the Science of Teaching Reading must also score a 2 or better on the Constructed-Response portion of the practice exam. Practice exams are available in the TExES Canvas Course, which you will receive access to upon formal admission to the Teacher Education Program. Email COE-TSO@unt.edu for more information.
