Practice Exam Requirement

All candidates must acheive an appropriate score on their practice exams in order to receive approval to take their actual exams. You will have two options that you may chose from in order to complete the practice exam requirements. You may also mix and match the two options. For example, if you want to use Canvas for two of the Core EC-6 domains and 240 Tutoring for the other domains, you may do that as long as you meet the specific requirement for that option:

Canvas Practice Exam Option

Practice exams for the following certification tests are available in the TExES Canvas Course , which you will receive access to upon formal admission to the Teacher Education Program. To complete the practice exam requirement through the Canvas course, you must acheive the associated score.

During each of your Block semesters, you will receive access to 240 Tutoring as part of your class assignments.  You can chose to use 240 Tutoring as exam preparation as well by enrolling in the courses related to your certification exams and completing the following requirements:

  • Complete the Plan To Pass/Diagnostic Test to determine strengths and weaknesses. This exam report can be downloaded and submitted to coe-tso@unt.edu as your baseline/initial practice exam.  Even if you score an 80 on the plan to pass/diagnostic test, it will not count towards test approval, but we will count it as your initial exam. Please include your name and UNT ID number when you submit the report.
  • Complete a minimum of six-clock hours of study for any exam you are planning to use 240 Tutoring for. That means, if you are planning to use 240 Tutoring as your practice exam requirement for all domains of the Core EC-6 exam, you must complete six clock-hours in ELAR, six clock-hours in Math, six clock-hours in Social Studies, etc. to qualify.
  • Pass a quiz in each unit to unlock a full-length practice exam.
  • Pass a full-length practice exam with an 80 or better for any multiple-choice sections.
  • For BTLPT, SPED and STR, there are constructed response sections that you will submit to Jessica Powell through the 240 Tutoring platform for scoring and feedback. A 2 or higher is required for each constructed-response section.
  • Once you have the appropriate scores and clock-hours, download your score report and send it to COE-TSO@unt.edu with your name and UNT ID number.  The TExES Office will verify that you have completed the clock-hour requirement before accepting your score report.

TExES Exam Registration

After you have met the practice exam requrirement, you will receive approval to take your real certification exams.  The TExES Success Office will provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to register for your exams. Once you are approved, you can schedule your exams at any test center convenient to you that has availability prior to the deadlines.
