Texas Exam Requirements

Secondary Education candidates have two exams required for certification in the state of Texas: A content exam based on the subject you will be teaching and a pedagogy exam. The pedagogy exam for all candidates is PPR EC-12 (160). Exam costs range from $116 - $136 per exam.

Testing Sequence and Deadlines

You must take your real content exam prior to starting Clinical Teaching. Students starting Clinical Teaching in a Fall semester must take their real content exam no later than July 15th (prior to the start of the Fall semester). Students starting Clinical Teaching in a Spring semester must take their real content exam no later than December 15th (prior to the start of the Spring semester).  It is recommended you follow the suggested testing sequence for your program. Candidates who have not passed all required exams by graduation will be able to graduate, but will not be eligible for certification until exam requirements have been met.

PRACTICE EXAM REQUIREMENT - EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 1, 2023
All candidates must score a 70 or better on their practice exams in order to receive approval to take their actual exams. Most practice exams are available in the TExES Canvas Course.
